Job Description
The incumbent is responsible for the installation, operation, and maintenance of telecommunications power systems across the TFL network. This includes managing utility interfaces, backup power systems, DC power infrastructure, cooling systems, and associated electrical and mechanical components. The role demands a proactive approach to fault resolution, system optimization, and adherence to engineering standards, with a strong focus on reliability, safety and performance. This role demands the incumbent to perform both technical and administrative functions and includes preparation of timely and accurate system performance reports
Requirements
Key Accountabilities:
- Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance to ensure system reliability.
- Operate and maintain utility power supplies, power generating plants, and fuel systems for generating plants.
- Service and monitor UPS systems, rectifiers, power batteries, and AC / DC distribution networks.
- Maintain earthing systems, switchgears, and power distribution panels.
- Oversee installation of power systems including UPS, rectifiers, DC power systems, switchboards, ATS, Gensets, and cooling systems.
- Ensure all installations meet commissioning and handover standards.
- Verify compliance with engineering specifications, safety codes, and telecom standards.
- Ensure timely fault detection, resolution and reporting
- Update station history logs as per template for all fault, refuelling and maintenance visits.
- Assist in achieving power and cooling system availability targets as per defined KPIs.
- Ensure all systems adhere to installation, commissioning, and operational standards.
- Practice good housekeeping and promote cleanliness and safety at all work sites.
- Support audits and inspections with accurate documentation and compliance reports
- Operate and maintain waveguide and cable compressor dryers
- Identify and implement innovations for system improvements and efficiency.
- Assist with other electrical or mechanical tasks associated with the Telepower network.
- Undertake any other duties as directed by the Team Leader – Telepower.
- Highlight areas, which are of high risk in relation to our activities
- Supervise and ensure staffs are equipped properly with the required protective gears
Qualification & Experience:
- A Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in telecom power systems or industrial electrical engineering.
- Strong understanding of AC/DC systems, UPS, rectifiers, batteries, gensets, and cooling systems.
- Familiarity with ATS, switchgear, earthing, compressor dryers, and fuel systems.
- DC Power Systems [Rectifiers, power batteries, controllers, cabling] including Installation, Configuration, Operations and Maintenance plus Troubleshooting
- Uninterrupted Power Supply [UPS System, its controls and configurations, interrogation, power batteries, cabling] including Installation, Operations and Maintenance plus Troubleshooting.
- Inverters and Converters – installation, operation and maintenances plus troubleshooting
- AC and DC distributions- installation and maintenances
- Earthing and lightening protection – maintenances, faults and installations
- Any electrical and mechanical associated works
- Should also posse’s good management and supervisory skills and the ability to manage staff and the other resources.
- At least 5 years’ experience in managing power systems for Telecom Network
